In the summer of 2021, BioSynErgy signed the financing contracts for the construction and operation of a waste-to-energy plant using biomass and solid recovered fuel (SRF) as fuel, in the town of Gonfreville L’Orcher. The heat produced by the plant will supply the district heating network of the city of Le Havre, as well as several industrial plants located in the Port of Le Havre area.
The BioSynErgy project is being developed by SUEZ, via SUEZ RV France, SUEZ RV Ouest and SUEZ RV Normandie, as well as VAUBAN INFRASTRUCTURE PARTNERS, via the BTP IMPACT LOCAL fund.
With a power of 44 MW PCI, the plant will produce renewable energy, limit the dependence of the city of Le Havre and its industrialists on changes in the price of fossil fuels, and develop the wood and waste sector. The latter will enable the recovery of 90 to 100,000 tons of non-recyclable waste that was previously destined for landfill.
For a total amount of approximately €80M, the project is financed by the shareholders, SUEZ RV Ouest and BTP IMPACT LOCAL, as well as by a banking pool composed of the Caisses d’Epargne et de Prévoyance Ile de France, Normandie, Bretagne Pays de Loire and Loire Centre and Arkea Banque Entreprises et Institutionnels, with the Caisse d’Epargne et de Prévoyance Bretagne Pays de Loire and Natixis for interest rate coverage. The project also benefits from a subsidy from the ADEME.
